Irreversible Sin - vs. - Irresistible Grace

“And every one who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven but those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.” Luke 12:10

We are in a season of revival. Our traditional thinking is that revival occurs, when we have a program and invite and evangelist to come and to preach a word; and, we shout and run and praise our God and it is over after three nights. God is saying to me that we are not having a week of revival but we are in a season of revival. The first order of this season is that we repent.

The question came to me, “Why is it that God forgives all sins, even those spoken against his son; but, does not forgive when one blasphemes the Holy Spirit?” The Reformed Bible defines blasphemy as an act performed by speaking; understood as an expression of the thoughts of the heart. It further explains that blasphemy attributes to Satan the work of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. It is a deliberate rejection of the truth. It is a decisive rejection of Jesus, the one who brought repentance, and truth and faith to us.

Ephesians 4:17-18 encourages us to not walk as the Gentiles did in the futility of their minds. Because of ignorance and a hard heart, their understanding is dark and they are alienated from life with God. Here is what that word ignorance suggest based on its Greek definition. Ignorance means inadvertence with the idea of willful blindness, moral blindness. Simply put, we choose not to see and attribute Gods work to Satan.

The time is now to repent. Why? It is our season of revival. The Holy Spirit is working to enlighten the church to the truth. The Holy Spirit is as work to reveal and to teach the gospel, persuading souls to repent and believe the truth. The Spirit not only quickens us to believe the word; but opens our heart to perceive and receive the truth of the knowledge that life in Jesus Christ brings liberty. (2 Cor. 3:16-17) When we knowingly work in opposition to the Holy Spirit we choose irreversible sin over irresistible grace. If we really received the grace of God in our lives, blasphemy would not even be an option.

Today, Grace is irresistible. I will live in the fullness of this season. I am ready for revival.
