Grow Where You are Planted

Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce.6 Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease.7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. Jeremiah 29: 5-7 ESV

“I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare and not evil to give you a future and a hope.” This is a passage that we know all too well. We use it to encourage ourselves when we are going through trials; and, when it seems that powers and principalities are coming against our future. We remind ourselves, through these words from Jeremiah, God has a plan for each and every one our lives; and, it is a plan of prosperity. Never in a million years did we think that God’s plan of exaltation included staying in exile.

Jeremiah, the prophet, sent this letter after the Israelites had been taken into bondage from Jerusalem to Babylon. He told them to live there; build houses; marry; plant gardens and seek the welfare of the city and pray for the city. Why did he tell them to do so? Your welfare is in that city. This is good news on today. Some of us have found ourselves in exile. We are away from home. We are spending time and placing our energy in people, places and things that we never thought that we would.

Our body is here where God has placed us; but, our mind is on the other side of town, in the next state, in a new country, on another continent; or, back at home. The enemy uses the walls of our minds to build barriers of discontentment. With walls surrounding us, we can never get what God has for us in this life. I want you to hear me on today, “Grow where you are planted. Multiply there. Increase and do not decrease. Your welfare is in that city.” “What is my welfare, you ask?” You are about to be exalted while you are in exile!

Today, I will grow where I am planted.  I will increase and not decrease. I will seek the welfare of the city, for in it I will find my blessing!

Thanks for reminding me that I can find increase no matter where I am. It is my attitude that determines my altitude and not my present circumstance. God can prosper me anywhere! Hallelujah!
