ayetteville State University opened The Community Computing & Learning Center in Bronco Square on Monday, August 16. The center has 10 computers which can be utilized by anyone on a first-come, first served basis. They also have 20 computers in a classroom equipped to teach computer and internet skills. The initial focus of the classes will be to serve residents of the Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Funding for the center was from a grant which was part of last year’s stimulus package. The center will initially be open during the week but will expand to include weekend hours beginning September 1. The housing authority will encourage its residents to sign up for a set of classes on self-sufficiency, managing a household budget and a checkbook, eating right and staying healthy, and learning job skills. Upon completion of the set of classes the first 50 housing authority residents will receive a netbook computer.
