I Once Was Lost But Now I'm Found

Written by Minister Patrice J. Carter, PhD

Dr._Patrice_Carter_Faysp_OGAmazing Grace is an old gospel song that many people are familiar with. The chorus goes something like this, “amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me; I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind, but now I see…

The Lord gave me a dream one night where a friend and I broke into Sam’s Club. In the dream we were in the middle of the floor and there were all of these old jewelry boxes stacked up and filled with old jewelry; and, we were looking for this one diamond ring (platinum with a huge diamond). Now, in reality, I’d never seen this ring before, however, I knew that I wanted it.

In any case, when I knelt down on the floor and began to open each jewelry box, I found that some of the pieces of jewelry were tarnished; broken, missing stones, tangled up and we couldn’t find the ring I was searching for. As we continued to search someone came up to the door and as a result, we decided we might want to get out of there before we got arrested! As we ran towards the front of the store I could see the light shining outside—we could see it from where we were inside of the store. Freedom!

You may be asking yourself, “why is this relevant”? What is the significance here? What is the spiritual message, value or aspect to this dream? I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED!

This dream spoke of deliverance, repentance, salvation and restoration said the Lord. Many of us, upon further introspection, can relate to this dream. I say this because, it actually represents a situation wherein we go through life and into places searching for something of value, something that will satisfy our desire or deep longing, but instead we find the same ‘old’ things and they aren’t what we’re looking for or what we want. We look in “box” after “box”; situation after situation, person after person, one thing after the other. We know what we think we want or at least have a vision of it—it’s beautiful and valuable and will complete our deepest desire (remember the platinum and diamond ring) - truly something of value or great worth. But we can’t find it. In the end, we are left with trouble.

In his letter to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 12:31), the Apostle Paul stated, “and yet, I show you a more excellent way. In short this passage of scripture is discussing spiritual gifts with love as the guiding factor. Only the shining light of God’s love will lead us to what we truly seek---that thing of value that fills the inner most recesses and empty places of our soul. His light will lead you out to freedom---repentance, deliverance, and salvation---restoration.

You once were lost, but you are now found. Look no more!

I invite you to read Romans 10:8-9.

God bless you,

Minister Patrice J. Carter, PhD
